Reading the Runes

A stream of consciousness on the #dailywritingchallenge on the theme of ...optimism.

Op.ti.mis.m. Such a positive word. Say it out loud.  Now say it in front of a mirror and keep a straight face. You can't.

Some questions about optimism spring to mind;
  • Do you wake up in the morning full of the joys?
  • Are you of a sunny disposition?
  • Is your glass half full or half empty?
  • What makes you feel glad?
  • How would you define optimism - one definition is this -  hopefulness and confidence about the future or the success of something. At the moment many of us are struggling with the confidence about the future things - there are lots of reasons why; all of which understandable. Things are not what they were that's for sure.
Like many people I'm trying to remain positive at the moment. It's not always easy. We are all having good days and not so good days. I'm taking in all the small joys I can find. YPs new interest in cooking - fabulous quiche; a blackbird digging for twigs; a card from a friend. Laughter.

I'm scared like many not as much about the now (although I'm very wary) but about the future. We can't see round corners but we can plan by setting some new foundations. But I am worried that unless I have those firm foundations my little bit of optimism that things will change for the better could be called naïvity or worse cynicism; because if we are going to be optimistic we need to have trust. And that might need rebuilding. If we take a step out and look up and read the runes, between the lines and listen to what's not being said and what we're not being told...then we may find a new truth!

Taking a positive from the current situation we all find ourselves in though I do believe that good things will come. Because together we are better we just need to believe it.
